This Might Be The Most Ludicrous Finish To A Golf Tournament You’ll Ever Hear

If you’re a casual American golf fan, chances are you’ve never heard of the Nordic Golf League. Based out of Denmark, it’s a European Tour equivalent of the PGA Tour Latinoamerica or the Mackenzie Tour in Canada, a feeder to the feeder to the big tour. You’ve also probably never heard of Christopher Feldborg Nielsen, either. He’s a 29-year-old from Sweden who plays on the Nordic Golf League, with one career start to his credit on the European Tour.

Why are we then bringing up the Nordic Golf League and Christopher Feldborg Nielsen? Because the two combined on Friday for arguably the most dramatic finish of a golf tournament in recent memory.

Playing in the final round of the final event of the 2021 NGL season, the Road to Europe Tour Final at Ledreborg Palace Golf Club in Lejre, Denmark, Feldborg Nielsen was one over par for the tournament as he stood on the par-5 18th tee. He’d made six birdies on the day, but a double bogey on the par-4 15th looked like it ended any real shot of winning the 54-hole event as he was now two off the lead. It got even more grim when Feldborg Nielsen’s tee shot found the rough, but he was still able to get a wood on the ball and try to go for the green in two. He made solid contact and amazingly holed the shot for an albatross 2 (NGL reports did not list how far out or what club he used).

As word spread about Feldborg Nielsen’s amazing finish, fellow Swede Adam Blomme now had to birdie the last hole to get into a playoff, which he did.

The two men went back to the 18th hole for the title, each reaching the green in two. Feldborn Nielsen lagged his eagle try to tap in range and made his birdie, but Blomme would up three-putting.

In pulling out the victory, the third of his NGL season for Feldborg Nielsen, he jumped to No. 1 in the season long points race and earned a promotion to the Challenge Tour for 2022. Previously in his career, Feldborg Nielsen has played in 30 Challenge Tour events, having a full card in 2018 but failing to keep his card at the end of that season.
